A stylish and safe sedan is always a solid choice when looking for a new car to get around town. With so many great looking cars on the road today, which ones offer that perfect mix of protection and features?

Pat Peck Kia put together this 2018 Kia Optima vs. Honda Accord comparison to help drivers in D’Iberville, Gulfport, and Hattiesburg decide which sedan is right for you.

Kia Optima vs Honda Accord Safety

2018 Kia OptimaWhen you’re riding in the 2018 Kia Optima, you can have peace of mind knowing that it was built to keep you safe.

It starts with a frame that’s built out of an Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) and crafted to give you added protection by hot-stamping 16 core stress areas to secure the structure. This also improves the quality of your drive by providing a quieter ride and better aerodynamics. The intelligent design continues with front and rear crumple zones, plus side-impact door beams that absorb energy and redistribute it away from seating area.

Inside, there’s an advanced airbag system that includes dual front airbags, dual front seat mounted side airbags, a driver’s side knee airbag, and full-length side curtain airbags. When a collision occurs, the front seat-belt pretensioners automatically tightens after sensing the impact. In the back seats there’s available Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) so that smaller passengers are strapped in securely

Thanks to this design and these features, the 2018 Kia Optima was named a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS).

The 2018 Honda Accord is also a safe sedan with automatic tensioning seatbelts, LATCH, and airbags throughout the interior. However, it doesn’t have the same auto body structure and earned a lower crash test and safety rating from IIHS.

Kia Optima vs Honda Accord Driver Assistance

On top of the secure design, the 2018 Kia Optima has lots of driver assistance technology to help prevent an accident before it occurs. These features provide you with all around awareness during your drive and include:

  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Advanced Smart Cruise Control
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Blind-Spot Detection with Lane-Change Assist

There’s also a helpful and unique Dynamic Bending Light & High-Beam Assist feature that let’s you see around corners as you turn the wheel instead of after your car has completed the turn.

The 2018 Honda Accord has a number of these driver-assistance features as well, but it doesn’t have any sort of Dynamic Bending Light to help you get greater visibility.

Kia Optima vs Honda Accord Design

2018 Kia Optima Interior SeatingBoth inside and out, the 2018 Kia Optima has style to make you feel confident while cruising around town. The interior has several comfortable premium leather trims available for the seats.

The infotainment system features a 7-inch screen positioned seamlessly in the center of the dashboard to give the cabin both a refined and modern feel to it.

On the exterior, there’s a wide mesh grille up front with a large matching air intake underneath. Raised accent lines on the hood continue the bold look all the way to the back, which has a slight spoiler and dual exhaust to round it all out.

The 2018 Honda Accord also has several leather trims available for the seats, but its infotainment system looks out of place. The 8-inch screen sits on top of the dashboard rather than in it, as if a tablet were just being propped up.

The outside is a bit extreme too. Rather than featuring accent lines, the hood, roof, and back are both raised and very round. It doesn’t create the same bold statement when it pulls up.
