Kia Optima Awarded IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Designation
It was announced earlier this month that the 2017 Kia Optima has been named an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick+, the highest IIHS designation possible. The rating applies to all Kia Optima models built after March 2017 that feature optional front crash prevention and LED headlights with high beam assist.
The 2017 Kia Optima offers driver assistance systems like Blind Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist, Front Collision Warning System, Advanced Smart Cruise Control, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Autonomous Emergency Braking.
To receive an IIHS 2017 Top Safety Pick+ rating, vehicles must receive a “good” rating in all five IIHS crashworthiness tests — small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint – as well as an “advanced” or “superior” rating for front crash prevention and an “acceptable” or “good” headlight rating.
In a release, Orth Hedrick, vice president, product planning, Kia Motors America, commented, “The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety sets some of the highest standards when it comes to evaluating vehicle safety, and the Top Safety Pick Plus designation is a significant achievement that substantiates Kia’s ongoing effort to improve the quality and integrity of our world-class model line. We are pleased that the Kia Optima received strong ratings across all of IIHS’ rigorous testing, validating the high priority we place on safety for our customers.”
